Pass the FROSIO exam — practise it the way it's examined

The FROSIO theory exam is written, not multiple-choice — you produce answers, you don't recognise them. CoatMentor is built for exactly that: 240+ original open-answer prompts with model answers, three timed 4-hour written mocks, and AI-assisted key-point marking. No braindumps, no recycled exam questions.

The FROSIO exam at a glance

Theory examWritten / open-answer, around 4 hours — define, explain, list, calculate. No options to eliminate.
Practical examInstruments (DFT gauges, profile, dew-point kit, holiday detector) and defect / rust-grade recognition
Standards spineISO 8501 / 8502 / 8503, ISO 12944, NORSOK M-501 — plus corrosion theory, coating types, application, defects, calculations, climate, H&S

New to the scheme? Start with our plain-English guide: What is the FROSIO exam?

Why multiple-choice prep fails for FROSIO

Recognising the right answer is a much lower bar than producing it on paper under time pressure. Generic MC question banks train the wrong skill — that's the gap this track exists to close.

Write first, then compare

Every prompt locks the model answer until you've written yours. Then you compare against the model answer and its key points — the exact discipline the written paper demands.

Timed 4-hour written mocks

Three 80-prompt mocks drawn to the syllabus topic weights — inspection & reporting, application, corrosion, surface prep, coatings, calculations, standards, climate, H&S — at the real exam length.

AI-assisted marking, you decide

After a mock, AI pre-ticks the key-point checklist for each of your answers; you review and keep final say. If AI marking is ever unavailable, self-marking against the key points always works.

The prompt style — judge it yourself

One of the free sampler prompts, shown with its model answer. In practice you write first; the model stays hidden until you do.

Explain the difference between ISO 8501-1 preparation grades Sa 2½ and Sa 3.

Model answer Sa 2½ is very thorough blast cleaning, often called near-white blast cleaning, where only slight stains, shadows or streaks remain. Sa 3 is blast cleaning to visually clean steel, where mill scale, rust and foreign matter are removed and the surface has a uniform metallic appearance. Sa 3 is the higher preparation grade.
  • Sa 2½ = very thorough / near-white
  • Sa 3 = visually clean steel
  • Sa 3 is the higher grade

FROSIO questions we get asked

Is the FROSIO exam multiple-choice?
No — the theory exam is written / open-answer (around 4 hours), plus a separate practical part. That's why this track is open-answer practice with model answers, not an MC quiz. Full details in our FROSIO guide.
Are these real exam questions?
Never. Copying real exam questions is unethical and against exam rules. Every prompt is written from scratch against the public FROSIO syllabus.
How do the calculation questions work?
The classic volume-solids → WFT/DFT, spreading-rate and loss-factor calculations are a dedicated prompt cluster, each with a step-by-step model solution. We've worked a full example in the FROSIO calculation guide.
Can I see the quality before I pay?
Yes — 10 FROSIO written prompts are open right now, no signup: write your answer, then reveal the model answer and key points.
How much does it cost?
$59 one-time for 12 months of access to the full FROSIO track — no subscription, no auto-renewal.
